Broken Leg Saga, Day 3

Went to see the orthopedic surgeon yesterday. He informed me that surgery was necessary. I have a spiral break on my tibial bone, torn ligaments on the inside of my leg by my ankle and bone fragments. I've really outdone myself this time. After surgery (which is Tuesday @ 7:30am in the beautiful and brand spanking new St. Joseph Medical Center) I will be in a cast for at least 5 agonizing weeks. Then gradually I'll start putting weight on my leg. All this means that my pro athletic ambitions are all but shot.

My foot is still really swollen so my instructions are to keep it elevated. Swelling must go down before surgery. In a cruel ironic twist, it's only when I elevate my foot that it becomes a throbbing source of constant pain. Aside from that, the pain has been very minimal. Either that or my threshold for pain is near god like.

Pics of swollenness:

  1. Hey there! Sorry to hear about your leg. That really sucks... Hope the surgery goes well on Tuesday though and the recovery happens quickly.

  2. Wow! You'd have really ugly feet if you were fat.

  3. I am so sorry that you had all of these foot problems. No body should have to be handicapt to the extreme you were with youre foot. It is cool thugh to get to use crutches:D

  4. I once broke my leg and needed a wheelchair for two weeks prior to graduating to crutches. I then needed to use crutches for 8 weeks. Then I needed a walking boot! This was 3 years ago and my foot still hurts to this day. So I know what it feels like to have foot problems. I am sorry that you had an injured foot!
